Our Commitment to Accessibility

Mountain Conservation Trust of Georgia is committed to ensuring that mctga.org is accessible to everyone, including people with visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive disabilities. We believe that access to information about land conservation should not be limited by a person's abilities or the assistive technologies they use.

Our target accessibility standard is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). This is the level most widely referenced in U.S. legal contexts and is recognized as providing meaningful access to the vast majority of users, including those using screen readers, keyboard-only navigation, voice control software, and other assistive technologies.

Current Accessibility Status

We are actively working to evaluate and improve the accessibility of mctga.org against the WCAG 2.1 AA standard. This site is built and hosted on Squarespace. As a hosted website platform, certain aspects of our site's markup, rendering, and built-in features are controlled by Squarespace, which may affect our ability to achieve or maintain full conformance in every area of the site.

We have made the following efforts to support accessibility on our site:

  • We aim to use clear, plain language throughout our content.

  • We strive to provide meaningful alternative text for images used on the site.

  • We work to ensure that our contact and inquiry forms include descriptive labels and are operable via keyboard navigation.

  • We aim to maintain sufficient color contrast between text and background across the site's design.

  • We work to ensure the site can be navigated without relying solely on a mouse or pointer device.

We have not yet completed a formal third-party WCAG 2.1 AA audit of this site. Some areas may not yet fully conform to the standard. We are committed to addressing any barriers we become aware of.

Known Limitations

Because our site is hosted on Squarespace, some elements are generated or controlled at the platform level, and we may have limited ability to modify them directly. This includes certain interactive components, form structures, and template-level code. We continue to monitor Squarespace's platform improvements and accessibility-related updates as they are released.

The embedded Little Green Light donation form is provided and controlled by a third party. We are not able to directly modify its accessibility characteristics, but we encourage Little Green Light to maintain and improve the accessibility of their widgets. If you encounter difficulty using the donation form, please contact us directly and we will do our best to assist you.

Relevant Legal Context for Nonprofits

Private nonprofits in the United States are generally subject to ADA Title III, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in places of public accommodation. Courts have increasingly applied Title III to websites of organizations of all sizes, including nonprofits. If your organization receives federal financial assistance, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act may also require accessible web content. The Department of Justice's ADA Title II rule, which codifies WCAG 2.1 AA for state and local governments, does not directly apply to private nonprofits, but it has increased regulatory and legal scrutiny of web accessibility broadly. We encourage you to consult legal counsel if you have specific compliance questions given your circumstances.

Accessibility is an ongoing effort, not a one-time project. We are committed to reviewing our site's content and design on a regular basis, incorporating accessibility considerations into any changes or additions we make, and updating this statement when our conformance status changes. We intend to commission a formal accessibility evaluation of this site and will update this statement with the results when that evaluation is complete.
